My supplier was quoting 55.5 pence per litre on a variable rate (which usually means it will increase over the two year contract). Jon secured a quote of 35.5 pence per litre for the first year and a maximum of 7 pence per litre increase for each of the two 6 month periods of the second year.

So even if those maximums were enacted the total cost per litre at the end of the contract would be 49.5 pence per litre - still well below the quote of my original supplier and two years later! In all, I expect to save in the region of £1,000 over the two years!

If one does not compare and switch, all the companies tend to behave in the same way and just hike the price of your gas. Even if you do not actually want to change supplier, it still gives you a bargaining tool to lower the price with your current supplier.

It is quite difficult to compare LPG prices as it is not like electricity or mains gas and some of the supposed comparison sites are not as independent as they may seem.
